It was my honor to serve as the Staff Platoon Commander of JP's father, then 2LT Ed Blecksmith, at the Marine Officer's Basic School in 1967. I never met JP, but know the man who gave him life, and who helped instill in him the qualities which JP demonstrated in all he did. I would have been proud to have also served with JP.
My deepest condolences to his family. Semper Fidelis,
Gerry Madison

I would just like to give my condolences to the Blecksmith family. I knew J.P. when we were younger playing on the South Pasadena AYSO All-Star soccer team. He was an outstanding individual and his parents were great people. It makes me sad to see a circumstance like this happening to such a great guy and great family.

While watching the Fox News special, I watched and listened to Mr. Blecksmith speak about his son. I was moved and humbled by his comments as he described his son JP. As an average American, the least I could do is simply express my gratitude and deep respect for JP and his entire family. I thank you and offer my sincere condolences. I assure you that your family's sacrifice will for ever be remembered as one which adds to the greatness of our Nation.

How can I as an individual, or we as a nation, ever find words to express our gratitude for God making men like your son. Thank you and God Bless your family.

For your son and all the other sons and daughters, Thank You and God Bless you. I'm a grandmother of 13, and my oldest grandson is going to be a Marine as soon as he completes high school - half of my heart is so very proud of him, the other half of my heart aches with fear. The Marines only take the best..and so do God, and I trust them both.
