I wanted you to know that my family was thinking of you and your family on Veterans / Armistice Day. I want to personally thank you again for your service as well as J.P.’s. Because of men like you and J.P., my children can live in and enjoy a safer world. Thank you again for your service and sacrifices, THEY WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

We drove from Springfield, Missouri to attend the ceremony of Blecksmith Hall
in Pasadena. Had only brief period to speak to Ed and Pam but had a nice long
visit with Ed up in Napa Valley a few years ago. Laura and I never had an
opportunity to know JP but Ed told me that he and JP had the kind of relationship
that he and Chuck had. Chuck and Harriet were our dearest and closest friends.
Every 11/11 we will remember three generations of Blecksmiths.1

Tomorrow is the UK Remembrance Day. 11.11.11.11 Another year has passed I will again wear JPs tee-shirt. I thought of JP while watching NCIS as he was probably repatriated in a similar way that NCIS started on Tuesday. Flags on coffins be they US or Union flags are strong images.

I found this site by a link from an article in Sports Illustrated online about the 2001 Army-Navy game. May God bless each of JP's family and friends and all those who lost loved ones 10 years ago, and in the years since then, in the Long War against Islamofascism.

Dear Family and Friends of J.P. Blecksmith: I accidentally stumbled across the JP Blecksmith Leadership Foundation webpage - and did not leave it until I read every word and every entry and about this remarkable young man who continues to inspire people even to this day. My condolences to everyone that knew him. This foundation is an incredible endeavor.

Dear Jaeps, It seems like yesterday we were running out for mint chocolate ice cream, a run to Georgetown for Brooks Brothers or just hanging out trying to shoot ground hogs off the end of the lawn. I love you with all my heart.

I loved participating in this run. There was a small but surprisingly fast group of runners, and though I've never been a fan of hills (well at least not the up side of them), I really enjoyed the down sides. In short, its a fun run for a great cause.
Hope to return for the 7th Annual -

Fourth of July, 2010. Heading down to run (actually walk: leg a bit gimpy with ligament problem) in the annual 5K. Walking may be better, giving me more time to reflect on the reason for this run--to honor JP Blecksmith and his family. And to honor so many other soldiers who have fallen in service to this nation, who have sacrificed in the noble cause of freedom and protection of people who are free or yearn to be so.
As I walk, thinking and praying over JP, I will also endeavor to reflect on the families of the fallen and the living sacrifice they endure day by day. The loss of a loved one is heartbreaking. I will lift the families up in prayer, asking God to hear my prayers for them, asking Him to succor them, to fill a void that only God can possibly complete.
I will pray and reflect on the American experience, the American family, "American Exceptionalism". It is said that "American is an Idea." I will consider what it is that are so great and exceptional about America. What is the "American Dream" that calls each of us to lay it all down when called, just as JP Blecksmith and his family have done? just as other noble people have done since this nation's inception 234 year ago?
I will pray for the future of this great nation, for its people, for the heart and mind of this nation as we continue to be the Idea the captures the imagination of the world.
May God continue to guide and bless the United States of America. May God bless the families of the fallen and the American family that also grieves with them--also celebrating the nobility of their sacrifice.
